California Diary no.4: Laguna Beach
It’s a little under a month until I head home to NH, and my feelings couldn’t be more mixed. I wish I had 3 more months here, but at the same time, the thought of being home in New England sounds wonderful! It’s hard to figure out which half of my heart to listen to in this situation. The native Californian, western-loving half of me is telling me to just drop everything and move out…but the east coast-loving half of me is telling me that I won’t be happier than when I am finally home. The struggle is real. Lol.
Trips to the beautiful California beaches only add to the confusion. I recently did a trip with family and friends to Laguna Beach to stop by Crystal Cove Shake Shack, as well as see the famous Pirate Tower along the cliffs.
As iconic as the Pirate Tower is, I’m amazed at how many people don’t actually know about it. The beach is quiet, and sparsely filled with locals, and the pools, towers up the cliffs, and rock faces are a gorgeous sight!
The water at this location is insane to say the least! The undertow tries to yank your feet right out from under you, and the waves crash straight onto the sand. Sometimes I was able to catch a 30 second lull and float about for an instant before the big waves started in again. It’s not a peaceful water experience, thats for sure!
But what made this beach day all the more fun was that my sister-in-law India came up for the day, and my friends Jon and Bekah joined in the afternoon. We feasted on Sidecar Doughnuts, jumped in and ran from the waves, and explored the rocks and cliffs along the waters edge. It was a great day spent with the most amazing people!
So…can you blame me at all for being conflicted about leaving California? As I said before…I wish I had 3 more months in this beautiful place.
