Christmas in Portsmouth, NH

One of my favorite cities in New Hampshire is the coastal town of Portsmouth. It’s brimming with historic charm, little shops, restaurants, and little cafes tucked into alleyways. And this time of year everything is trimmed with festive garland, and the tree has been decorated and places in the square. It’s a beautiful, magical spot at Christmastime!

On my latest trip to Portsmouth, I checked out a darling new-to-me cafe called Elephantine. It’s French meets Mediterranean style fare, and totally unique! The atmosphere felt as though I were back in Paris, from the mirrored wall, to the gentle music, to the hum of hungry guests, to the vintage water glasses…every touch was perfection! I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and a French Sipping Chocolate, and both were TO DIE FOR! I am so glad I discovered this gem of a place; in just one visit it has become a favorite for me! I love discovering these sorts of places in New England, and I know I will be back every time I return home to visit NH!

A few favorite eating spots around town are:

Elephantine Bakery

Popovers on the Square

Tuscan Kitchen & Market

Maison Navarre

Cup of Joe’s Coffee and Bar

Fezziwig’s Food and Fountain

The Soupery

I also finally made it to the adorable Portsmouth Soap Company. There are so many little independent shops around town, it would take days to visit all of them!

A few of my favorites are:

Portsmouth Soap Company

Pickwick’s Mercantile

Gus & Ruby Letterpress

The Spice & Tea Exchange

LeRoux Kitchen

Stonewall Kitchen

If you are ever in New Hampshire, make sure to take a little trip to the coast to check out the beautiful town of Portsmouth! Spend the day there, and enjoy all the food and shopping this little city has to offer…it is truly a gem!
