HOW TO SURVIVE QUARANTINE

HOW TO SURVIVE QUARANTINE DURING COVID-19 | This is something that is on everyone’s mind at the moment: how do we survive being self-isolated? I am an introvert, so not interacting with the outside world for an extended period of time isn’t hard for me…and yet, I am still finding this time so difficult! When was the last time anyone was excited to go to the grocery store before all of this? Haha! It’s a huge change in everyone’s daily routines, and I wanted to share a couple tips on how to stay sane during this crisis.

MAKE A DAILY ROUTINE / SCHEDULE

Create a quick, general schedule for your day; it really helps, trust me. I am one of those people who doesn’t want to be ruled by a schedule…but I have found sticking generally to a routine has been helping me pass the time.

KEEP FIT

This is THE MOST IMPORTANT tip I can give. A couple years ago I was on top of my fitness…I was working out 3-4 times a week, getting in cardio daily, paddle boarding and kayaking during the summer, snowboarding and ice skating in the winter…I was fit. I ended that year thinking “this was the best year of my life”, and looking back on it, it truly was.

I didn’t put the fitness part together with “this was the best year of my life” until I twisted my ankle at the end of that year, went through a couple months of physical therapy, then was in the hospital the beginning of the next year, and fell completely off the fitness band wagon…and forgot to get back on at the end. Let me tell you, even though I had so many wonder, crazy, amazing adventures last year…mental health-wise, it was probably my worst year.

Fitness and physical health is 100% tied to mental health. If you have the ability to work out, eat healthy, and stay fit, DO IT! You will feel 100 times better about whatever situation you are in because your mind is healthy, because you body is healthy.

AND NOW we have the most amazing opportunity of having a lot of extra time at home on our hands. Use this time to start working out consistently at home, going on walks and runs (if you can, depending on what lockdown restrictions are like where you live).

SO, with all that said, here is a look into my daily routine: (please keep in mind I am not as busy right now as those working from home and homeschooling kids, so I for sure know that some people’s schedules will look different, but I encourage you to keep to a good daily training/fitness routine.)

MY DAILY ROUTINE

MORNING

  • answer emails

  • work

  • morning walk

  • workout

  • shower

AFTERNOON

  • lunch

  • work

  • afternoon walk with the dog

EVENING

  • dinner

  • clean the countertops, doorknobs, and light switches

  • evening show or movie

For workouts I use the SWEAT app by Kayla Itsines. It is a monthly subscription app, and has workouts, recovery, and challenges that you can do throughout the week. She has recently tailored it to be all home-friendly, so you can use it without having to worry about not having gym access!

I have also been getting out on my paddle board on warmer days. If you have a paddle board, kayak, canoe, and access to a pond or lake that doesn’t have a lot of traffic, go for it! For me, there is nothing better than getting back out on the water.

Hope this helps you guys get through this quarantine period. It is so important that we stay home at this time so we keep ourselves, and other people safe. Stay home, stay healthy.
