NEW HAMPSHIRE LUPINE GUIDE
The lupines are very special here in New Hampshire. Every mid-June fields in the White Mountains turn purple and pink with blossoming lupines. The beautiful blossoms are the perfect backdrop to any photo, if you know where to find them!
For the best lupine sighting, head nowhere but Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. The small town in the White Mountains is just as cute as its name, from the old white church on the hill, to the large barns, grazing horses, and the famous Polly’s Pancake Parlor.
WHERE TO FIND THEM
For the best lupine sighting, head up early/mid month. On Sugar Hill Road, just past Polly’s, there is a beautiful field on the right. Everything is purple, surrounded by trees, and at the back of the lupine blooms there are gorgeous yellow wild flowers! Stop here for amazing photos!
Just past there, at the curve in the road, is St. Matthew’s Chapel, which is a fabulous steepled church, normally with lupines in the grass down behind it. Watch out for black bear, as I have spotted one running across the road there!
Beyond the chapel, take Sunset Hill Road to the right, and you will see fields with incredible mountain views, all the way to the golf course. These fields on the left are beautiful for capturing the majesty of Sugar Hill. If you are looking for the perfect, quaint lupine photo, head to the golf course on Sunset Hill Road. Right before their parking lot is a field of lupines with trees, surrounded by a split rail fence.
Don’t forget to stop by Herman’s Cheese Shop while you are there, and be sure to get a delicious pancake at Polly’s before you leave town! This is the best early/summer day trip!
