WALPOLE NH & DUMMERSTON VT
WALPOLE NH & DUMMERSTON VT TRAVEL GUIDE | Of any fall day trip I take, my annual trek to Walpole, NH and Dummerston, VT is by far my favorite! It’s alway a relaxing and peaceful day, and the countryside in that area is some of the prettiest in New England, I think!
Walpole, NH is a border town, and full of historic homes, rolling hillsides, farms, my favorite chocolate shop, and much more! If you know anything about me, you know I LOVE chocolate, and you probably know I love L.A. Burdick. Their headquarters is in Walpole, where there is a store, with an attached restaurant. My usual routine is to order the french onion soup and truffle pomme frites (to die for!) from the restaurant, and then pop next door to the chocolate shop to get a hot chocolate to-go while I drive around the town and take in the views.
I always make a stop at Alyson’s Orchard just up the hill from town, as they have the best selection of pumpkins anywhere around! Every year we get a jumbo pumpkin for our porch. This year is was so heavy, I wasn’t sure I would be able to lift it into the car!
About 30 minutes away, just over the border in Vermont is Scott Farm Orchard in Dummerston. It is the most elegant farm, with hillsides full of apple trees, several large white barns, and the best apple cider on this side of the country. They make their cider from a blend of all the apples they pick that day, so it has a different taste every time I go!
