WINDHAM HILL INN, VERMONT

VERMONT TRAVEL GUIDE | There is a cozy room in a countryside inn in Vermont that I have been dreaming of for over a year now, and that dream came true for me this winter! The Windham Hill Inn in Townshed, Vermont was nothing short of incredible, and my favorite room, the Meadowlook Loft Suite, was everything I had hoped for! If you had to create a room that was made specifically for me, I’m pretty sure you would get this room. It was a beautiful marriage of all my favorite places combine. It had elements of Alpine Switzerland, the Scottish Highlands, and Cabin-y New England throughout it.

Our two night stay at this historic Inn was a pleasure! They have accommodations in both the 1825 farmhouse, or the 1825 barn on the property. Our room was in the barn, with a view of the grounds and hills down below. Just across from the barn was the “Ski Shack” where they had complimentary Barbour wellies, snow shoes, and toboggans for guests to use on the trails across the property. Guests are welcome to bring their own x-country skis to use on the trails as well!

Both evenings of our two night stay we had dinner in the inn’s restaurant, The Speckled Hen, which was both relaxing and delicious! The chef outdid himself with the most incredible risotto on night one, and even further outdid himself with a spiced apple ravioli with gorgonzola sauce on night two…it was heaven. Dessert was a two layer flourless chocolate cake by the fire.

We were only 30 minutes from the Mount Snow ski resort, so I couldn’t resist bringing my board along. It was such a good feeling to be back in the snowboard saddle, and what I thought would be an hour of snowboarding turned into several! It was the perfect bluebird day, and cold enough that the snow encasing the trees up top didn’t melt away. At the bottom of the main lift was the all-important Waffle Cabin, a must-have ski snack establishment that graces many of our Northeastern slopes.

Also half an hour from the Inn sits one of my favorites! J. J. Hapgoods general store and eatery is in the picture perfect town of Peru, VT, and has some of the best truffle fries for miles. I ordered the grilled cheese, chicken and orzo soup, and truffle fries with minced shallots, garlic, and aioli. I have no regrets.

We also visited the historic town of Grafton VT, a place that had been on my list for a while. The town has an adorable red general store, a cheese shop and factory, antique stores, and an adorable town center. For sure, put this town on you list of places to visit in VT!

The whole stay was the perfect New England winter getaway, and I was sad to say goodbye the cozy Inn. Thank you to everyone at the Windham Hill Inn for making our stay the best! Till next time!
