A Peaceful day in Boston

The other day I grabbed a basket bag, my camera, some butterscotch chocolate caramels, and headed into Boston with my mom for a lovely girl’s day out! Aside from an airport run, this has been the first time since the start of the pandemic that we have been in Boston. In general we have kept closer to home throughout this time; but as restrictions ease, and cases go down, we are getting more adventurous, and slowly starting to get back to normal life. I cannot tell you how WONDERFUL it felt to be back in the city!

Boston is my favorite big, small city. It has history, charm, food, energy, everything. There is something significant to our nation’s history everywhere you turn, and plenty of quiet, peaceful, and beautiful streets to walk down. This was the way we did Boston this time around…peaceful Boston. We did do a bit of clothing shopping while we were there, but mainly stuck to the gentler neighborhoods, and hit up old favorites for food. Pre-pandemic we would go into Boston once a week, so we were used to the rush and the hustle, but this trip felt like the perfect ease-in to the city.

We started the day grabbing lunch at Dig. Dig has been there for us many a Boston night when we looked for something healthy and filling to eat. It is basically a create-your-own bowl situation, and they let you choose from various bases, sides, proteins, and dressings. My go to is the brown rice with sweet potatoes, chicken breast, half an avocado, and a garlic aioli dressing. It is fresh bliss, and I am always fully satisfied after that meal.

Our next stop we walked down Commonwealth Avenue and Marlborough Street, and cut through the beautiful public garden, full of families, dogs, sunbathers, birds, and a gentle breeze. From there we stepped into the Beacon Hill neighborhood. If you are looking for a more peaceful area of Boston, Beacon Hill is it. It is a hill that has been built on back in the 1700’s, and all the back neighborhood alleys and roads off of the main street are quiet and tranquil. We visited Rouvalis Flowers and Acorn Street, two iconic locations in Beacon Hill. The busier section of the neighborhood is Charles Street, which is lined with adorable shops, cafes, and delicious restaurants, and is my favorite area to shop in town!

We ended the day heading back through the Garden, up Newbury, to Clarendon Street to enjoy a bit of chocolate at our favorite chocolate shop! L.A. Burdick Chocolates has an adorable Back Bay location, and because the day was so hot and sunny, we of course ordered the iced hot chocolates. Burdick’s is a must stop if you are a chocolate lover in Boston!

And that is exactly how you can spent a peaceful day in Boston while still seeing and enjoying the city! It felt so amazing to get back into Boston, and I look forward to many more trips in after I get back from California at the end of summer!
