NEW YEARS ON NANTUCKET
NANTUCKET TRAVEL GUIDE | I can’t believe it’s been 100 years since the start of the roaring 20’s, can you?! In celebration, we rang in the New Year at the one of my favorite places in New England, Nantucket! More specifically, the Nantucket Hotel & Resort; the best place on the island!
This was my first time seeing ACK in the winter, and I loved it! We had the streets to ourselves, and everything was gloomy and cold. This beautiful island doesn’t get her nickname “The Grey Lady” for nothing, and it was enchanting! While there are lots of closed shops and restaurants at this time of year, it was delightfully peaceful, and it was fun to interact with more locals than tourists! Also, did you know that Nantucket has an ice rink? I brought my skates when I found out, and it was the perfect winter activity! It’s a small island, and tourists really don’t know about the rink, so the ice was pretty empty. It was marvelous!
The Nantucket Hotel was celebrating 2020 in style, with an “Ocean” themed dinner and dance. Everyone went all out in the costume department, from large sequined gowns to clown fish caps, it was one of the jolliest sights to see! So much care and attention was put in by the staff on every little detail, from a boat shapes oyster bar, to coral and seashell centerpieces on each table. Courses of seafood, the best flourless chocolate cake, and even a late-night mashed potato bar were on the menu. To cap everything off, they dropped a giant, glistening anchor for the final countdown of 2019.
Everyone danced and cheered, and sang “Auld Lang Syne” to the light of the golden anchor. It was a fantastic evening that will be remembered for years to come!
BTW, the Nantucket does a themed gala every New Years, and I cannot tell you how fantastic it all is! Put it on your bucket list!
