OGUNQUIT, ME TRAVEL GUIDE

Ogunquit Maine Travel Guide, Travel Tips, Maine Coast

From York to Acadia National Park, everything about the Maine Coastline is special. Every few miles up Route 1 there is an adorable old town, filled with shops, cafes, antique stores, and beaches. One special spot is the Ogunquit.

Ogunquit is exactly what you imagine when you think of small-town coastal Maine. Candy shops and Ice Cream stops peppered throughout town, doors flung open on every shop, hanging with t-shirts and souvenirs. Just down the road is a sandy beach that sits beside the perfect rocky shoreline.

I love visiting Ogunquit, and I wanted to share with you all of the best eateries, shops, and things to do there!

WHAT TO DO

There is something for everyone in this town, if you are a beach lover, looking for relaxation, or just want to peruse the shops, Ogunquit has a lot to offer!

The Marginal Way Walk - just across from where Obeds Lane dead ends on Shore Road is the start of this beautiful coastal walk. It winds over the rocks, past coastal homes, and looks out over the beach. It’s an easy walk, so anyone can do it, but if you are looking for a bit more adventure, you can do some rock scrambling right off the trial! The walk ends at Perkins Cove, where there is more shopping to be had! And you can’t miss the adorable mini-lighthouse that sits about halfway on the footpath! Also, there are lots of little public beaches along the footpath, so if you want a quieter beach to relax at, bring you beach gear to the Marginal Way, and stop at one of the sandy alcoves!

Ogunquit Beach - This is a no-brainer if you are heading into town. Just over the bridge on a large spit of land is the famous Ogunquit Beach. It’s usually pretty crowded, but a lovely spot!

Tubing to the Beach - For a relaxing tubing experience, bring your inner-tubes and put in up from the beach, at the footbridge that goes over to Footbridge Beach. If you put in as the high tide is going out, you can float all the way down the river/cove till you get to the Ogunquit Beach! This is best if you have someone in your party not going tubing, and who will drop you off and drive down to relax and meet you at the beach!

WHERE TO EAT

There are countless yummy spots in town, so you will have your pick! Here are a few food highlights!

Loveshack Juicery - This spot is perfection! If you are looking for some delicious, healthy food options, look no furthur! Loveshack feels as though you have stepped into Hawaii to eat; the vibe is so fun! Also, stop next door at Bandito’s for some chips and guac to have along with your smoothie bowls! YUM!

Bread & Roses Bakery - Want to eat a chocolate chip cookie as big as your face, or a delicious slice of pizza? Bread & Roses is a great stop for a quick and delicious bakery lunch!

Rococo Ice Cream - And it wouldn’t be a Coastal Maine Town Travel Guide without an ice cream shop recommendation! You kind find a bunch all across town, but I love Rococo! Their flavor combinations are out of this world, and so unique! (Please note Rococo’s Ogunquit location is temporarily closed due to Covid, but if you plan a future trip, be sure to stop by!)

WHERE TO SHOP

The Maine Street in town is chalked full of little shops, and fun places to peruse, so allow me to highlight a few great shopping options!

Harbor Candy Shop - It wouldn’t be a One Gal Explorer Travel Guide without mentioning the best place in town to get chocolate! At Harbor candy you can get fun treats from gummies, to truffles, to salt water taffy! It is all so delicious!

H&M Crumpets - Stop next store at the delightfully scented H&M Crumpets for all your lotion, bath bomb, and hand soap needs!
