The Coziest Hotel In the World - The Fife Arms

Far from any large city, in the wilds of the Cairngorms National Park, and just around the corner from the Queen’s residence at Balmoral, sits the Fife Arms - a luxury hotel in the middle-of-nowhere, Scotland. As we stepped out of the gloomy, drizzling evening, and into the warmth of the hotel’s reception, we were greeted by kilt clad staff, with a friendly smiles and thick Scottish brogues, who immediately made us feel at home. We were swept off to one of the Victorian Rooms on the first floor, with a view overlooking the Clunie Water.

Each room has its own theme. Our room was the John Brown suite, named after Queen Victoria’s Scottish Ghillie, so as one can imagine, the room was full of tartan, pheasant artwork, and there was a stag statue on the desk. There was a large clawfoot tub that I could fully stretch out in, and inside the wardrobe were hot water bottles, and everything one needed for a good coffee and hot chocolate before bed.

Walking through the halls of the Fife Arms was like walking through a museum. In the sitting room hangs a Picasso, a Lucian Freud in reception, and the Clunie Dining Room has a village scene by Pieter Brueghel II dating back to the 16th century. Everywhere we turned there was another masterpiece to discover.

Once the guests have finished perusing the beautiful halls of artwork in the hotel, they can take a step outdoors, into nature, and experience an incredible time with the Ghillie team at the Fife Arms. While our stay was too short to partake in one of the many activities the Ghillie’s can arrange, just the thought of a Land Rover drive up the Highlands to a warming hut for lunch is enough to make me ready to plan my next stay! There are so many beautiful experiences at the Fife Arms and surrounding area; the nature to explore is endless! And this isn’t to mention that the town of Braemer is home to the Royal Highland Games every year, an entire experience in itself!

Scotland is wild and moody, with a bit of gloominess, and that is what makes it so beautiful! When looking for a spot of warmth and welcome in amongst the harsh conditions of the Highlands, you will find no better stay than at the Fife Arms. We fell in love with this place, and are counting down the days when we can be back in our beautiful Scotland, and back in the warm and cozy embrace of the Fife Arms.
