NANTUCKET

NANTUCKET TRAVEL GUIDE | As many of you may know, Nantucket is one of my favorite places…my happy place. It is so nice to be able to jump on a boat and within 2 hours be out on an island, and feel so far removed from everything. It’s a freeing feeling; utterly relaxing.

On this trip we stayed at The Nantucket Hotel & Resort, the most welcoming hotel you can ever stay at! Our journey started right off the ferry, when Omar, the hotel driver, and just the best guy you could ever meet, picked us up right on the wharf, and whisked us to the Nantucket.

Every staff member was so kind, and eager to help us at our every turn. We had a beautiful suite with an adorable sitting room and kitchenette, and a view out towards town.

The very nautical bar and dining room was a hit with me. I loved the decor, and ordered a virgin piña colada, which I sipped under a large, suspended model steamship. Dinner at their restaurant, Breeze, was scrumptious…can anyone say tomato tart?!

We decided to go all out fall on this trip, as I had never experience the island at that time of year. It started with hot chocolate every morning at the hotel’s delicious breakfast buffet, and from there we decided to rent a car for a day, and drove all over the island. We stopping at the Sankaty Head Lighthouse, ‘Sconset, and swung by Bartlett’s Farm to see their sea of pumpkins!

In town we walked around taking photos of pumpkins on all the porches. We ate at the Brotherhood of Theives for lunch, popped in bookshops and clothing shops…many of which were having sales because it was after the end of the season! One of the things I most enjoyed about visiting in October was the lack of crowds…it was delightful! While we were there, the high school was celebrating something…I suspect it had to do with sports….and all the high schoolers had built floats and were parading through the streets, led by the town fire engines with sirens blaring, and everyone lined the sidewalks, cheering and celebrating. It was so fun!

Before we knew it, our two night stay was over, and we had to say goodbye, and catch the ferry back to the mainland. It was a wonderful trip!

TIPS:

- Take the slow ferry. One of my favorite things about going to Nantucket is being in the ferry on the water. I tried the fast ferry once, which gets you there in about an hour, and I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the 2+ hour ride.

- Rent a car or vespa for a day, so you can get out of town and see whatever you want! (FYI a vespa might be a bit cold if you go in the fall…)

- Be sure to take time to wander down to Brant Point Lighthouse, its a lovely walk!
