WOODSTOCK, VT

WOODSTOCK, VERMONT TRAVEL GUIDE | One of the best Christmas day trips ever is to a small corner of eastern Vermont. Quechee and Woodstock are Vermont gems any time of the year, but especially so in December with all the holiday festivities and decorations! I had been itching all month to get to Woodstock, and it lived up to all expectations and beyond!

Our first stop was just outside Woodstock, in Quechee, for lunch at Simon Pearce Glass.  The glass factory, shop, and restaurant sit right on the river, overlooking a beautiful covered bridge and the falls (the falls were positively roaring that day from all the rain and snow melt the night before).  I love the atmosphere inside their restaurant.  It’s like the ski lodge you hope every ski mountain has.  Be sure to get the Vermont cheddar soup while you are there!

If you are looking to quaint, historic, festive, down to earth, winter wonderland, look no further than Woodstock, Vermont.  Nearly every house is painted white with green shutters, and everyone makes sure their Christmas decor is on point.  What I love about New England at Christmas, is that people dress their homes in the most timeless way.  They throw up greenery and berries, there is a wreath on every door, and there are candles in each window.  It could be 1718, it could be 1918, it could be 2018…it’s just that perfect.  I don’t see the modern light fests that I did when I lived in California, and however much I enjoy light fests, it just doesn’t work in New England the same way as it does on the west coast.  New Englanders stick with tradition and timeless classics…it’s in their blood, and that is what makes Woodstock such perfection at Christmastime!

The downtown area is full of shops bustling with Christmas shoppers, all bundled up and jolly. I stopped by the Vermont Flannel Company where I picked up a flannel blanket and a flannel scarf, both in Stewart Dress Tartan. Just across the street is FH Gillingham & Sons, which was the general store of my dreams.
